OFFICIAL COMPETITION GUIDELINES

The contest shall be based on a point system, with a total of One Thousand (1000) points available to each bartender. Points may be accumulated during two rounds of competition with a fixed maximum number of points per round:

General Rules

-Any violation of any of the following rules or guidelines may result in expulsion from competition with no refund.

-All competitors must check in at either the meet and greet reception at Club Safari Monday evening or at 11:00am Tuesday morning at Club Safari.

-Bartenders must arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Any Bartender that is not on time for scheduled rounds may be subject to disqualification and be docked one point for every minute they are late.

-Flair practice will be performed in designated areas only. Any Bartenders that are found Flairing outside of these areas will be subject to disqualification. This is a public place and any broken glass in public areas will not be tolerated by security.

-Bartenders may use their own pour spouts in their Pour Test Bottles for the Speed / Accurcy round as long as they are free flowing spouts and they are pre-approved by our pour test round judges.

-Bartenders may use their own mixing tins in all Flair rounds except the Speed / Accurcy round.

-Bartenders may use their own ice scoops in all Flair rounds, but must use the scoop provided for the Speed / Accuraccy round.

- All of the bottles for the Speed / Accuracy round must have Spill-Stop #285-50 Metal Pour Spouts on them. The only exception would be the pour test bottles, you may have whatever free flowing spouts that are pre-approved by the Speed / Accuracy round judges.

- The Working Flair bottles must all have Spill-Stop #285-50 pour spouts on them. The rest of your Flair / Specialty bottles can be Plastic Spill-Stop pourers if you choose.

- All competitors must bring a photo ID and their Social Security number.

- The garnishes do not have to be squezzed.

- All music must be CD format and on One CD.

- You may use your own music for both the Flair / Specilty round and the Speed / Accuracy rounds. If you do not have music we will play something for you.

- Final Bar setup and inspection will be the competitor's responsibility. If the competitor signals the bar is OK and the contest starts, it may not be stopped for a missing bar object or item.

- Should a mechanical or other malfunction occur which is not the competitor's fault, the competitor will not be penalized, but they will be encouraged to continue with the performance. If the competitor feels their performance was hindered an extreme amount, they may protest for the right to redo the performance. These protests must happen within 30 minutes of the end of their performance. The event head judge, contest judges, and the competitor will discuss the options and the outcome will be final.

ROUND ONE: Speed / Accuracy 400 points

Judging shall begin once the drink list is chosen and placed in front of the contestant and the emcee says, "GO". IT SHALL BE THE CONTESTANTS RESPONSIBILTY TO SIGNAL THE TIMING JUDGE TO STOP THE CLOCK. This may be accomplished by waiving his/her hands above the head and calling "Time!". The judges will record the contestants score at the end of the round. Also the drinks will be closely scrutinized for recipe accuracy (exact drink contents), the use of appropriate glassware, garnishes, and spillage. The beer has to be opened and placed on the bartop. Each mistake the contestant makes during the completion of the six drinks, one beer and three free pours will add varying time penalties to the score recorded by the time judge.

-There will be two (2) Different Drink Lists for this round, Drink List#1 and Drink List#2. As the Bartender steps behind the speed bar, they will choose randomly which Drink List they will be making.

-The Bartender will not know which Drink List they choose until the emcee reads the Drinks aloud.

-All six drinks and the pint of beer must be placed on individual bevnaps.

-The Shooter must be chilled, shaken and strained.

-Ice can only be scooped by an ice scoop or tin , No Glassware!

-There can be nothing in your hands when you start.

-You will pour and put back , there will be no throwing off .

-The Pour Test Bottles will be on the Back Bar and filled half full with water, Except
the Skyy Melon witch will have 2oz of water .

-The Bartender must flip into a pour with the Skyy Melon for the 1 1/4oz pour.

-There will be a ten point bonus for a perfect pour test.

-Bartenders will receive ten points for every five seconds adjusted speed time that is under 1:20 .

-All Bottles from the well must be returned to the well as all bottles from the back bar must be returned to the back bar.

-All juices must be returned to the jockey boxes.

-The free pours can be done in any order during the round.

-The free pours will be poured into 3 plastic cups marked with the corresponding pour.

-The free pours are 3/4oz with Midori, 1 1/4oz flip to pour with Skyy Melon (Set at 2oz) and a 2oz pour with 1/2oz Cuervo, 1/2oz Malibu Coconut, 1/2oz Tanqueray and 1/2oz Skyy.

-The Pour Test bottles will be behind you on the back bar and you will do the free pours anytime during your Speed / Accuracy Round.

 

ROUND TWO: Flair / Specialty Round 600 points

-If the bartender would like music for their routine they must submit the CD to the DJ after the preliminary meeting .

-No FIRE what so ever !

-The bartender must make the drinks according to the drink list. This includes the proper glassware, ingredients, portions, procedures and garnishes.

-Ice can only be scooped by an ice scoop or tin , No Glassware!

-The bartender must use the spirits that are available at the bar and may not bring other spirits to the contest for that is illegal.

-750mls WILL BE ALLOWED BUT THE COMPETITOR MUST SUPPLY THEIR OWN BOTTLES. The 750 mls must be of the same brand as the one liter that they are replacing.

-The Working Flair drink must be finished before attemting to make any of the exhibition drinks.

-The bartender will have five minutes (four mins for Qualifying) to complete the drinks from the Drink list and produce a Specialty Drink (The Specialty Drink is only for the Finals). Whatever the Bartender has not completed after the time limit will be deducted from their total score. The Specialty Drink must be made last.

-Any drinks , props or equipment that is not already at the bar must be pre-approved by the judges prior to the contest.

-Bartenders that have a high degree of difficulty ( Triple bottle flipping , juggling , etc, ) or Guest involvement in their routines must discuss their routine and be pre-approved by the judges prior to the contest.

-The bar will be cleaned and reset after each contestant. The bartender will have two (2) minutes to arrange the bottles ,store-n-pours , ice scoops and props in their station.

-All liquor bottles will be set by the Bartender and checked by the Barback.

-The emcee will then read the drinks out loud and will say " GO ",At this time the clock will start and you have Five minutes (four minutes Qualifying Day) to make the drinks on the drink list with Flair. You may not touch any equipment until the emcee says "GO".

-If the bartender breaks a bottle they can ask the barback for a back up of what was broken or grab a backup bottle from the back bar.

-Also the last minute of your five minute routine there will be NO DEDUCTIONS for Spills, Drops or Breaks! You can however still lose points for Smoothness.

Qualifying Day

-Qualifying Day will be on Tuesday September 21st .

-All Competitors need to arrive at 1:00pm Tuesday September 21st at Club Safari except those that want to compete in the Semi-Pro division must be inside Club Safari at 12:00pm (Noon) Tuesday September 21st.

-All Competitors will do the Speed/Accuracy round as well as the Flair Round.

-For Qualifying day the Flair round will be four (4) minutes long.

-There will be deductions for spills and drops the last minute of Flair for Qualifying Day.

-There will be two bars , One for Speed and the other for Flair.

-We will pick numbers to determine the order you will go in.

-The first half of numbers will do Flair first and the second half will do Speed First.

-We will alternate from Flair Bar to the Speed Bar.

-We will take approximatly (10) Ten Pro Bartenders for the Finals.

-We will be taking (5) Five Semi-Pros for the Finals.
